Grandma’s Lamb… something

Meat

I’ve had a heckuva time reading this spattered piece of paper. I’m pretty sure this is a quick and dirty version of cabbage borscht with lamb shank. But it might be less of a soup and more of a main dish with that flavor profile. I assume large can = 28 oz and a “small can of sauerkraut” is a typical 15 oz. can.

Source The Grandma Zone

Ingredients

  • 1 lamb shank
  • 1 large can whole tomatoes (mashed + juice)
  • 1 large diced onion
  • 1 small can sauerkraut (plus juice)
  • ½ head of cabbage, shredded
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tblsp salt
  • Sour salt to taste

Method

After cooking 1 ½ hours let get to luke-warm and then finish seasoning to taste. 5 quart pot.
